Options Trading is often intimidating, perhaps because of the bad press given to it, especially during the high-flying 1980s and 1990s, or perhaps because there are so many moving parts.  Yes, options trading can be likened to a chess game.  But the bad press is not deserved.  Options were developed as a form of protection for underlying stock.  That they have been associated with larceny and chicanery among some unscrupulous people is unfortunate, but that should not diminish the value they have contributed to the marketplace as a whole.
